THE first Spur Schools MTB League event of the season took place on May 12 at Phoenix High School in Vereeniging.

The league is a schools-based league aimed at qualifying high schools for an annual inter-school final, therefore great focus is placed on high school entries and team entries.

Over 500 eager riders attended and the race consisted of 4.2km laps with the sub-juniors starting with three laps and the junior men finishing off with five laps. The groups were sub-divided into ages, namely the sub-junior boys, the sub-junior girls, youth 15 girls, youth 16 girls, junior women, youth 15 boys, youth 16 boys and junior men.

DINAMIKA: The young riders from Hoërskool Dinamika who took part in the event.

Both Hoërskool Dinamika and Alberton High entered a team this year. Alberton’s team placed very well in their respective groups with times ranging from 53 minutes to 60 minutes.

Marizaan Wessels, a Grade Eight learner at Dinamika, took third place in the sub-junior girls event.

The day was enjoyed by all who took part and is a sign of great things to come. Congratulations to all learners who took part.
