 GAUTENG SPUR SCHOOLS MTB LEAGUE

The Gauteng Spur Schools MTB League is a High Schools Mountain Bike League that consists of 6 regional events that take place during the League season of May – September.

Any rider wanting to compete in the Gauteng Spur Schools MTB League needs to be a bonafide learner and registered at high school. No home schoolers or primary school riders are permitted to participate in any of the events.

UNDERSTANDING THE NEW STRUCTURE

For the past four years, the Gauteng League consisted of four events for all interested schools from within Gauteng province. All schools could participate in all the events. As the League grew over the past couple of years adjustments made to accommodate the growing numbers eg. Youths were split into Youth 15 and Youth 16, last year the juniors were split into Junior 17 and Junior 18, made the seeding list longer ect. But last year, at one event, there were 201 sub junior entries and it was realised that a change had to be made.

The principal decision that was made to divide the province into three regions based on numbers. Every region should have equal riders, and each will compete against one another on a home and away basis. This means that every school will still take part in four events and every school will ultimately compete against all the other participating schools once the League is finished. This should reduce the numbers to 650 per event, a more manageable number.

Riders will only be permitted to participate in their allocated regional event and will not be allowed to race in any of the others, even just for fun. This is solely to manage the massive participation and interest.

All the points earned at the events will count for the school log as well as the individual log. There will no longer be leader jerseys awarded per race but instead a winner’s shirt at prize giving after each event, which may be worn at the next event. The overall League winners will be announced at the final event of the season. Logs will be published after each event in order to keep all updated as to the progress of the school teams.
